ReadX ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our application handles your information. ReadX is designed with a privacy-first architecture: your documents, reading history, notes, highlights, and analytics are stored locally on your device.

2. Information We Handle & Collect

A. Document & PDF Access (Local On-Device)

  • Local Storage: ReadX accesses files on your device (via Storage Access Framework or device storage permissions) solely to render PDF documents, extract text for local viewing, search, and generate reading analytics.
  • No Cloud Upload of Files: Your entire PDF files and books are never uploaded, copied, or synced to any external server. All document indexing happens entirely on your local hardware.

B. AI Assistant Queries (In-Transit Processing)

  • Ephemeral Text Processing: When you explicitly trigger an AI feature (e.g., "Explain", "Simplify", "Translate", or interactive PDF chat), only the specific excerpt of text or relevant passage context you selected is transmitted securely via HTTPS to third-party AI LLM providers (e.g., Groq API, OpenAI API).
  • No Permanent Retention / No Model Training: AI inference requests are processed in real-time and are not used to train public AI models or stored permanently on remote servers.
  • Local Chat History: AI chat conversations and summaries are saved locally on your device in your private app storage.

C. Reading Analytics & Notes (Local On-Device)

All reading stats (reading time, daily streaks, pages finished), user highlights, and annotations are stored exclusively in your device's local private database.

D. Personal Information & Accounts

  • ReadX does not require user accounts, email sign-ins, phone numbers, or passwords to use any core reader or AI features.
  • We do not collect names, payment info, precise location, or contact lists.

3. Permissions Used by ReadX

  • android.permission.INTERNET: Used exclusively to communicate securely (HTTPS) with AI inference APIs when you request text explanations or chat with a document.
  • android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / android.permission.MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: Used exclusively to scan, display, and open PDF documents located across device storage directories (Downloads, Documents, Books) as requested by the user.

4. Third-Party Services

ReadX utilizes reputable third-party APIs solely for real-time text intelligence:

  • Groq / OpenAI API: Process user-initiated text explanations and chat questions over encrypted TLS connections.

We do not integrate third-party advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or data broker analytics.

5. Data Security

  • All network communications with AI services occur over encrypted HTTPS/TLS protocols.
  • Local notes, highlights, and preferences reside within the Android sandboxed application directory protected by the operating system.

6. Children's Privacy

ReadX does not knowingly collect any personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13.
